Getting the entries out of Instagram

Instagram has no export button for comments, which is the part nobody tells you before the giveaway ends. There are three realistic routes. For a post with a few dozen comments, open it on desktop, select the comment thread and copy — you will get a lot of junk around the usernames, which the list tools here clean up in a couple of clicks. For a few hundred, a third-party comment exporter will give you a CSV. And if you set the giveaway up with a form or a link in bio, you already have a spreadsheet, which is the easiest case of all.

Spinnza does not connect to Instagram, log into your account or scrape anything. You bring the list; it never leaves your browser.

Whatever you paste is kept character for character: the @, the underscores, the emoji, the capitalisation. A winner who cannot find their own handle in your announcement is a winner who thinks you made it up.

Tag-a-friend rules and duplicate comments

Most Instagram giveaways run on “tag a friend”, which means the same person appears once per comment. That is usually what you want: three comments, three chances. Duplicates are kept by default here and the entry count tells you how many it found, so you can see whether the list matches what you intended.

If your rules say one entry per person no matter how many times they commented, Remove duplicates collapses them — and adds their chances together rather than discarding them, so switch weights off too if you want a flat one-each draw.

If instead a tag is worth a bonus rather than a whole entry, put a star and a number after the name: “@alex *3” gives Alex three chances. The wheel shows the extra slices, so the odds are visible to whoever is watching rather than buried in a spreadsheet.

What to post afterwards

A proof spin records at 1080 × 1920 for Stories and Reels, or 1080 × 1080 for the feed — choose the shape before you record. It is a purpose-built composition rather than a screen capture: no browser, no buttons, no cursor, and your draw title, entrant count and timestamp on the frame.

The free winner card is a still image for the same job if you do not need the video.

Before you run it

Meta’s promotion guidelines put the whole thing on you, not on Instagram. You need your own rules, and your post has to make clear that the giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Instagram. Requiring people to tag themselves in something they are not actually in is against those guidelines.

Have a plan for a winner who cannot be reached, or whose account is private or deleted by the time you announce. Saying up front that you will redraw after a set time saves an argument later — and a redraw on camera is another ten seconds of recording.

Does Spinnza read my Instagram comments?

No. There is no connection to Instagram at all, and no login. You supply the entry list yourself and it stays in your browser.

How do I handle someone who commented five times?

By default they get five chances, which is how most tag-a-friend rules are meant to work. Remove duplicates collapses them to one row if your rules say one entry per person.

What size is the video?

1080 × 1920 for Stories and Reels, 1080 × 1080 for the feed, or 1920 × 1080 for anything wider. Pick the shape before recording.

Is the recording proof that I did not cheat?

It is a record of the draw, showing the entrant count, the time and a fingerprint of the exact list you drew from. It is not legal certification or an independent audit, and Spinnza does not claim it is.
